In November 2007, Mayan Medical Relief, Inc., a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation, changed its name to Shirati Health, Education and Development Foundation, US Branch.

The specific purposes for which Shirati Health Education and Development Foundation, US Branch is formed are:

• To organize teams of volunteers to provide health care, including preventive and curative, in underserved Tanzanian communities;
• To acquire, package, and ship needed medicines, medical supplies, equipment, and disaster relief upon such need in Tanzania; and
• To provide education, training, and exchange student sponsorship to empower Tanzanians to improve their own health and to reduce poverty and promote development in their communities.
